The Big Apple Core

IMG_2053©
Because of the chronic illnesses I live with I don’t travel well. So I use pictures I find to take me away. When I saw this photo of Manhattan, NY I loved the perspective and wanted to capture it. This is a 2′ x 3′ canvas with a gloss varnish to add to the ethereal feeling. When I was half done someone walked in a said “Oh, Manhattan!” You can imagine how happy I was that the city was that recognizable! I always imagined Manhattan to be the center of New York City’s activities hence the title … The Big Apple Core!

Pilgrim’s Gate

The “Pilgrim’s Gate” is inspired by the famous book Pilgrim’s Progress; an allegory of a Christian’s journey through this life. It is one of my favorite books and this gate plays a big role at the start of Christian’s journey. I made the background vague so that each viewer can decide for themselves what is on the other side of the gate.

Used But Useful

This old boat has clearly been painted many times with various colors. Most of the layers have peeled off but the rope suggests that it is still being used. I was having a hard time physically while I was painting and I often felt like this title…used but still useful!

Snowy Egret

Snowy Egret

This is a Snowy Egret which is a small white heron. It’s yellow feet distinguish it from it’s relatives. This is my largest canvas to date at 30″ x 40″. It was so much fun to paint the reflections of the trees and grasses that are off camera. One thing I love about this perspective is that you can only see under his wing when you look at his reflection in the water. I nicknamed him Eddie the Egret!

The Crown

Type the same title here (from above)

The Crown

This is an Echinacea, also known as a Coneflower. I was enamored of the perspective here. We normally only see these flowers from above but this view from below allows you to see the crown formed underneath. It is pointed and sharp and reminded me of the Crown of Thorns worn by Jesus at His crucifixion.
